I am a technical claims handler. This involves helping claims handlers with any technical queries they may have and also to deliver any coaching requirements they may have, after discussion with their leader. I am also responsible for checking claims have been processed correctly and authorising the payment of these claims.
I have learnt a lot of new skills in this role as well as developing new skills. I was give the opportunity to become a mental health first aider and attended a two day course to achieve this. I have also had the opportunity to coach and develop claims handlers.
I am really enjoying my programme . The actual coursework has expanded my knowledge of the insurance industry and I have a much greater understanding of the business I work in. I have also enjoyed the variety of different tasks I am able to do within my role and with the programme.
The programme is well structured and organised. I am always given time ‘off the job’ each week to read the text , watch the relevant videos etc. The support from Kaplan is also well organised. The revision sessions are very helpful. The Kaplan talent coach assigned to me is also structured in her approach.
My employer is very supportive. I am given all the help I need and time to do the course work. I have had the chance to attend different courses to gain knowledge and experience in different aspects of the role. My employer also has regular networking sessions with all the apprentices invited to attend.
I have received good support from my training provider. I have regular catch up sessions with my talent coach and she is always very good at getting back to me with any questions etc that I may have. I am always provided with constructive feedback and support and encouragement when needed.
I feel that the qualification helps me to perform better in my role as it gives me a far greater understanding of the insurance industry than I have ever had before. It helps me to understand other areas of the business and not just the area I am currently working in.
The company arranges extra curricular activities from time to time. They are highly dedicated to helping various charities and there are often opportunities to be involved in charity events. Also each year there is a volunteering week where staff are able to help local charities etc by painting, gardening etc.
Yes
There are a number of reasons I would recommend RSA to a friend. It is a great company to work for with a number of great benefits you can opt into each year. The people are great and there are plenty of opportunities to progress if you want to. Also it is comitted to the apprenticeship programme.
Just do it. I spent 20 plus years in my last job and really wished I had gave applied to RSA years earlier. I have never regretted changing jobs. Also the more you put into the job the more you will get out of it. There are opportunities for people who work for them.
