  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Product Development department as a Product Coordinator. My day-to-day consists of running different MI spreadsheets we use to monitor product data; coordinating any Savings or Mortgage Product launches we have that week, and any internal or external communications updating colleagues and customers about new products or product maturities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my ICT skills considerably as I now work with excel a lot and my team often challenges me to create spreadsheets from scratch or improve existing MIs. My public speaking skills have also developed as I do presentations for team on quarterly updates for Information Security. As a coordinator, I also have gotten the opportunity to improve my communication skills as I often have to work together with multiple departments and do many different internal and external communication for product updates.

  • I have received consistently helpful support from not only my department but also the Early Talent Team. I get a lot of opportunities to try things I have never done before and wouldn't outside of this programme. I am thoroughly enjoying myself and I am excited to continue down my apprenticeship path with NBS.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Newcastle Building Society is very invested in my future and they offer a lot of support for personal development, such as workshops and online best practise research tools. They also have a mentorship programme which I was automatically signed up to as a new starter. Having a mentor helped ease my learning process as part of being an employee at NBS, and they offered me support and guidence for when I was struggling.

  • 9b. Why?
  • Newcastle Building Society is a really lovely place to work, everyone I've met have been very nice and even the office locations are amazing. They really are invested in my future, which is shown through the many self development programmes they offer, and it's a place I'd be happy to work for NBS for a long time, as many of my colleagues have.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Newcastle Building Society?
  • Be as genuine as possible and make sure to be a good team player. During the interview process your assessor won't just be checking your ability to perform a task but also they will be judging your character. Newcastle Building Society is after people who are nice to be around and can work effectively in a team, these are two of our key behaviours as a business.
