My role is a software engineer and this involves gaining experience in all stages of the software development life cycle. I work 9-5 with flexible hours, and 8 weeks a year I go to university to study for my degree in software engineering. I also have to complete a level four diploma.
Yes there are many extra-curricular activities at work. There are sport activities which include cycling and football. There is a games group too. I have started taking part in British Sign Language courses at lunch time so that I can expand my understanding of the language and enable me to communicate with deaf people.
Yes
The apprenticeship is organised well and it gives me valuable work experience in a professional environment, as well as a degree without the debt of going to uni. Being in an office full of professionals in the field provides a great opportunity to learn skills and gain knowledge in a range of areas.
During the application process, promote yourself but also be yourself. If you are a natural leader, take charge of that but don't be overwhelming. If you are quiet, that's ok! The company is looking for potential not a perfect individual. You should also be very clear on what the deadlines for the application are as there is very little leeway for lateness!
