Building and maintaining the fibre optic network in the UK. Creating new circuits or repairing damaged ones, providing lines to customers and installing their equipment for them. Also answering questions for customers who may have queries. Working up telegraph poles on occasion and often in manholes and other places such as that.
How to build nodes and install networking equipment. How to diagnose and test fibre optic circuits. How to climb telegraph poles and use various equipment safely.
It is the best job and training experience I've ever had, all the information you could need is available and easy to find.
Very well organised. I had 14 weeks of training preplanned by my first week in the business and everything going forward has been set out clearly.
Plenty, any time I have asked for support it has been available almost immediately and if it hasn't been there immediately it has been looked into and provided in a timely manner after that
I've got supported learning days booked in weeks in advance and can contact my assessors and trainers anytime I need to.
It is all based on work I'm doing so it is great to get assessed on it and able to iron out any problems I may have early on through their support.
There are plenty available, I have yet to join any as I already had quite a few social and hobby commitments elsewhere
Yes
I've worked for a number of larger companies in the past and a lot of the time you feel like an overlooked cog, you don't feel valued. BT has so far shown me more willing to invest in me in a few months than I've had in my life. I'd absolutely recommend them as a fantastic place to work.
Be honest about your abilities without bragging or fabricating. If you have drive and commitment to chase the roles or qualifications you want BT will absolutely support you and push with you to get you to wherever you want to be. Whether that's staying out on the ground doing the job or moving into more clerical or managerial roles. Theres something for everyone
