I work as a night receptionist, the role includes checking any remaining guests in, completing the financial day, looking after the safety of the guests and myself. I start at 11 pm and finish at 7 am. I start by completing a handover with the Pm receptionist and when I finish I hand over to the am receptionist
I have learned a lot of communication skills, how by listening to guests problems and issues I can help them have more pleasant experience staying with us. In addition, I became more aware of todays society's problems like sexual child Exploatation and modern day slavery. I learned to be more confident when interacting with people on and off work.
The apprenticeship enhanced the skills that I have already have, and brushed off some of the basic skills like mathematics and English. The program touches on wide aspects of the hospitality industry, revealing some new ideas that I look forward of implementing in my career in the future. Also, the support from the tutor is incredible.
The program is incredibly well organised. It can identify any areas that need improvement and let you work on the problems. It's easy to access either via the app or computer. It sets goals and structures them in a way that is achievable even for someone like me who works the night shift.
The support from the employer, in this case my manager has been great. Anything from advice to constant availability to express my concerns. They also accommodate any changes in the schedule to suit my apprenticeship. The fact that there are middle management team members who also participate in the apprenticeship helps to have even more support.
The training provider is incredibly helpful in me working towards my goals. She helps with any issues or questions I have, works with my schedule and she is always available. Her help with setting up the virtual classes have help tremendously. She always checks up on me, to assure things run smoothly.
The benefit of the qualification spreads beyond my current role. I believe that knowledge is something that will benefit me for life and it will expend my horizons. In my current role, it will help boosting my confidence and knowledge, therefore it will have a better impact for the employer as well.
Currently there are activities that we can help to raise funds for Great Osmond hospital that helps children with cancer treatments. That involves anything from running marathons to simply encouraging guest to donate when checking in. Even the smallest change spread among over 1500 hotels and restaurants can have a great impact on the cause.
