  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work mainly front of house on the tills, taking customers orders making sure they have everything right that they need. Not very often I collect the customers order, I make drinks I go on the drive thru. Very rarely I go into the kitchens to make the food for the customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Not really. Lifetime wanted me to progress with the company but the company refused. After telling my mentor for McDonald's this needs to be done, they didn't take anything onboard. I did pick up some other skills that I already build on from past jobs which helped me keep going on.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program was a mixed result. Lifetime were really helpful in telling what needed to be done and how I can achieve this. Whilst McDonald's on other hand didn't know what to do. I enjoyed the work that lifetime has given me and helped me with all tools I needed but McDonald's wasn't interested with my progression after the apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Lifetime side of things was really good. They worked with mcdonalds head office to ensure what I needed to do in what time which was perfect. On the other hand. McDonald's in my store wasn't bothered at all. I didn't do any full shifts in the kitchen, they just put me on the till all the time and weren't bothered progessing me to other stations and it wasn't very good organised within store. To make matters even worse I had three mentors within McDonald's and both didn't know what to do with the program!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In one word no. After going through 3 different mentors which they didn't know what to do even though lifetime and myself clearly told my mentor within store what needed to be done. There was another store that wanted to help me progress through the program and wanted to get everything done properly but my business manager refused the help and I told him what needed to be done and basically he didn't follow through after the apprenticeship for my progression

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lifetime were amazing provider, lifetime helped me so much to get everything done and gave me support when I needed it. Though McDonald's in my store thought that he could done his job better for the apprenticeship to work more. But for me he did everything to the best of his ability.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • During my qualification there was some activities that I had to do In store to prove myself that I can move on to gain my apprenticeship. McDonald's in my store refused to do this activity and done it with my mentors dispite me doing all the preparation for it. When my assessment came up, my store refused to let a room out to finish the apprenticeship and I had to do it in a another store which didn't help me at all. I got better at my role but the store just didn't recognise it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I was only offered to do a talent show, a liv sync battle and a beach clean up and that was it. McDonald's say that you can play football and all that but my store offered nothing. It really was disappointing. They were in store activities going on too but favouritism was in the way and only their managers so what called friends got it. I won one but still haven't got my prize.....

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I'd rather work at another store. My store wasn't even bothered to help go where I wanted to go with the company. Lifetime helped me all I can but McDonald's in my store just didn't live up to my expectations at all for their apprenticeship program.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Do not apply for the store I worked out. It was favouritism all over the place, the people who were rude to customers got promoted ahead off me. When I did my crew trainer interview I didn't get the position due to my lack of communication but when I did my end point assor they stated that my communication was perfect so they didn't take that into account so only favouritism got the people in.
