I do a weekly review of sales data and the content of our website I attend lots of meeting which sets my to do list for the week Creating presentations Using excel Using pricing software Attending training sessions Competitor analysis Working towards my Diploma in Business Administration Making decisions based on data Team huddles
I have developed my existing skills in excel such as using formulas and creating tables to represent data in a clear and effective way. I now feel more confident in approaching new people and speaking in front of a large audience. I have improved in my ability to take notes quicker and only taking what is relevant. I sometimes have to take minutes in meetings where this is an essential skill.
At the beginning I found it fairly overwhelming as there was lots of information and an intense 4 week induction period. However as I have settled into my role, i feel I am given a sensible level of responsibility, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the rest of the industry through visiting cruise ships, going to the hangar and having taster days and shadowing other departments.
The Team hierarchy is very organised each destination has an assistant, exec, manager and senior manager. Everyone knows what they should be doing from the schedule meetings we have at the beginning and middle of every week. There is plenty of training for any new starters so I always feel confident with the task in hand.
I have weekly catch-ups with my line manager where i feel comfortable to express any concerns i may have. The HR team are always available to speak to. I have been assigned a mentor but have yet to have a meeting with them. Anyone in my team are always willing to support.
I have recurring catch ups with my tutor and they explain things clearly and take the time to make sure I understand. They are organising to hold workshops in the future to help with the workload and are generally keen to help in anyway they can and offer an interest in my general work too.
My qualification involves studying businesses and how they impact the environment, how to communicate in a business and problem solving and decision making. Currently I have only looked into a couple of the topics but in the future my new found knowledge should benefit me within my role by allowing me to be more confident.
There are plenty of training courses such as TODP's and learning weeks. I have been lucky enough to learn about health and safety, experience a TUI blue fitness class, make smoothies on a bike, go on hotel and cruise visits. I listen to many guest speakers including the CEO of TUI.
Yes
Many opportunities and departments to work in. No two days are the same. The people are supportive and welcoming. There are many development courses to attend. People get promoted quite quickly. You get to travel. There is a costa coffee in the office and the breakfast in the canteen is really nice.
As much as having good grades is important, you should show your personality as someone who is confident, eager to learn, passionate about the travel industry. They should try and have some work experience which involved them interacting with customers and have evidence that they are good at problem solving.
