Moving around placements every 3/6 months working in nuclear safety, nuclear engineering, test and commissioning and nuclear operations. After 3 years I will decide the role best suited to me and exit there. Day to day involves helping out the placement manager and complete SMART objectives set by them that area all relative to set of technical and behavioural competencies.
I have learnt extreme amounts of new knowledge regarding nuclear. In terms of skills I have learnt to work with others better, my presenting has improved due to the technical nature of the job and my use of certain software packages relevant to the job have improved. I hope to gain more skills when I enter various different placements.
I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of the programme at the moment and am most impressed by the versatility of the programme as well as how well thought out my 3 years are. It is good to know I have solid job security. It is also a bonus to be paid whilst getting educated and getting that important on the job experience
My programme is extremely well organised due to the competency of my discipline manager. He ahs ensured that I know what I am doing and where for the next 3 years and allows this to be changed to suit my needs and wants as an apprentice. I can make changes to my programme to best suit me and my future.
My employer is very supportive of me in my work and provides adequate incentives to keep up what I am doing. They push me to strive in both work and learning at college through 12 weekly check ups that help keep me on track and to set new goals for myself.
My training providers are excellent in what they do, the staff that are supplied to help educate me can answer any queries I give them and are clearly well versed within their given functions. They reply to any queries I have in a timely manner and are available to check work for me when needed.
My training has helped me improve my nuclear knowledge and I therefore understand more technical language regarding both engineering and nuclear power. As I advance through my college course my knowledge increases and I find that my work and education intertwine extremely well as there is much crossover between the two.
My work offers many extra curricular activities as well as activities that can be partaken in as part of work. Through my work I have become a STEM ambassador and helped to support a STEM club at primary schools. I am also supporting the questions team for a local STEM quiz between 8 secondary schools.
