Although i am classed as an Apprentice day to day my role is similar to my colleges where i find customers their dream holiday! I do this by searching and using all of the different Tui tools we have. This also involves speaking to different customers daily in person and over the phone. In terms of my apprenticeship i have a few tasks to complete each day which help me gain more knowledge on different destinations.
I have learnt many new skills such as; money handling as this is something i have never done before and never really been very confident in. Holiday planning- anything from finding the perfect holiday right down to planning extras such as; airport parking and insurance! I have also been able to develop my customer service skills. Although i have worked in customer service before i have been able to develop my skills as i build a rapport with my customers not only so i can get to know what type of holiday they are after however, to also make them feel comfortable with me.
I enjoy working with Tui as an apprentice as although i am an apprentice i am still able to get involved the same as my colleges and learn so much whilst working. I also enjoy the apprenticeship work i complete as its engaging and is all about the day to day work i complete. I am also able to complete online training on different destinations which also boosts my confidence when selling different destinations.
My apprenticeship is very well organised as each week i get an off the counter day to complete any work i have. All apprenticeship work is to be completed whilst at work and not at home therefore, to make sure i stay up to date and not fall behind, i am given 1 day each week to complete any tasks i have to do. Following on from this my apprenticeship coach contacts me regularly to check how im getting on and too see if i need any help- i am also able to contact my coach at any time. I also have meetings with her every few months to speak face to face.
My employer always asks me how im doing with my apprenticeship and is also interested in the work that im doing.- This is nice as im able to show her what I've been learning. Some apprenticeship work has to be filled out daily (which only takes 10 minutes) however, some days within the shop can be very busy therefore, she will ask me if i have completed all my tasks so that i dont forget.
As i have already attended college i only have the 2nd half of my apprenticeship to work towards therefore, my coach (same as my manager) will call me to make sure i am confident with the work i am doing so that i understand everything when it comes to my end assessment.
Within my role i am asked by customers about different destinations and what some destinations have therefore, my training helps me as i have destination modules to complete where i learn about all different destinations therefore, my apprenticeship helps me perform my role much better. My apprenticeship also means i meet new people therefore, also boots my confidence this side.
We have many social networking pages where we can share any good moments/ moment makers we have had that day. This is nice as you can see different success within the business. We are also offered "educationals" which we can apply for where we go away to a destination for work purposes.
Yes
Because i enjoy my job as a travel adviser and also enjoy the apprenticeship work i complete. Its a great way to learn about destinations as its all on the job learning and there is always someone who is happy to help. It has also boosted my confidence when talking to members of the public.
Don't be put off by the wage as there is always bonuses up for grabs. Be confident when applying as the role is all about speaking to customers and showing that you can build a rapport with them. Having basic computer skills is also helpful as it helps learn the computer systems we have. Not to worry is geography isn't your best subject as you can pick so much up whilst just working!
