Service delivery engineer - fixing faults, repairing lines and installing copper lines to customers in both residential and business premises to enable them to have a working phone and internet service. speaking with customers and other engineers on a day to day basis working both inside and outside in all weather
I have learnt new skills every day since I left training school, tips and hints that can make my life easier in diagnosing problems in the network. I have also learnt that I am able to contact a form of over the phone control should I be stuck when on a job.
my programme is enjoybale because it is a small group of us, ach with our own take on the work that needs to be done, different IT levels etc. our assessor is a lovely lady who is always happy to help us - even if we aren't due a NVQ day for some time
My programme is very organised. there has been some challenges from the laws above that request that days be cancelled, due to work stack but we have been fortunate to not have our days cancelled, putting us behind on our NVQ work. Our assessor has been extremely helpful throughout the year.
I have sometimes received intermittent/ very little support from my employer. all the way through my NVQ my assessor has been very helpful. there can be some things which the employer could do the give more support. Openreach could of offered more support/ better locations for the nvq days to take place.
My training provider has been brilliant, they are helpful, friendly and able to provide me with help for any questions I have regarding my NVQ. They are firm but fair in the respect of instilling the deadlines to us all, giving us individual help on the task that we need to complete.
I feel as though my qualification has given me a helping hand in remembering some of the items/ tasks that I may of not done since the training school. remembering the correct technique/ steps to installing a drop wire or climbing an EL pole etc. has proven to be very useful
Openreach have recently introduced workplace which is a work version of Facebook. on workplace they have introduced groups for golfers, cyclists, motorbikes, rugby etc. There are also work competitions such as battle of the bands. there are lots of opportunities both inside and outside of work with colleagues from all over the UK.
Yes
It is a good well known reputable company. there are plenty of opportunities within the group, whether it is civils, engineering, fibre, or more office based roles within the city. there is a good chance of progression as well as moving around the country whether it is permanent or temporary.
Be persistant, it can take a little time for any feedback, communication to come through. some people waited 4 /5 months, others only waited a couple of weeks for feedback to come through. for the size of company and the sheer amount of engineers/ back office staff then there will always be a slight delay
