Within my role I mainly spend time booking customers holidays and their extras like parking, insurance etc. but I also sort out customers travel money. However we also have behind the scene jobs to take care of like checking confirmations, assisting with customer complaints or amendments to their holidays, as well as other parts of their holiday like welfare assistance, excursions etc.
Within my apprenticeship I have learnt team building skills, gained confidence and developed on my organisation skills as well as my people skills to be able to build a rapport with customers in store. I have also learnt time management and selling skills to be able to add on all the extras to a holiday as well as selling them a specific hotel or destination within my role and by learning all the skills I have progressed to being deputy manager of a very busy store whilst finishing off my apprenticeship☺️
I love the programme that we use. Although the change over in systems the work included and the set up is great to work on one aspect of the role at a time and more challenging aspects further on in the programme so it times well with what I have experienced on the job.
The programme is well organised and split up into different sections. Each section is focused on one aspect of the file like travel money or taking payments so there is no confusion on what you are working on. The program is also set up so that the section you are working on is likely to be what you have experienced on the job. For example it’s starts simple with everything around payments to work up to things like customer complaints
I receive a lot of support from my team and management that are understanding that I am apprentice and have my work to do whilst in the shop. I know that I can ask any of them a question and they will help me as much as possible. I also have the support of other apprentices within our region who I will call if I’m stuck and we can help each other.
I also receive support from my assessor and although this isn’t face to face all the time I know I can pick up the phone or drop an email whenever I am stuck and she is great at getting back to me ASAP. We also have full apprenticeship days every few months where all the apprentices in our division meet up and work together so we can help each other out with our assessor there too.
The qualification content is based around what I do on the job. So although I would probably learn it at some point it’s great to have it documented to go back on or to learn it before it comes to doing it in the shop. The content of work also means I’m trained in all aspects of the role so when I’m qualified I can help the rest of the team if needed and pass on my knowledge.
As a team we aim to meet up every other month out of work to socialise and see each other so we can gain a bond. This could be going for a meal after work, a night out, Christmas do or something more active like bowling or mini golf etc. Other than this, no, not that I’m aware of.
Yes
It’s a great company to work for! The team are so lovely and kind. The job in itself is so rewarding with incentives and there is so much opportunity to work your way up or change role within the company to management, head office, overseas or on our cruises etc and with the educational programme there is opportunity to see the world! I’m going on our new TUI Ricer cruises in March with work!
This role isn’t just booking holidays, it includes admin jobs like emails, complaints, travel money (in our shop anyways) amendments etc and everything has a target to hit! This isn’t a negative thing, just be prepared to learn something new everyday and drive for targets to get great rewarding incentives!
