I currently work as an investment research analyst. This typically involves conducting investment reviews of many different organisations we currently invest or potentially could invest within. This involves analysing their financial strength, fundamental business profile, the industry it operates within and current risk environment. This underlying research is then compared with their peers to provide investment recommendations to fund managers to aid their investment decision. My role often involves meeting with the investor relations teams of these organisations and working closely with the wider investment team at ASI to report my findings.
I have learned lots of new skills since joining Aberdeen. Undertaking a modern then a graduate apprenticeship whilst working full time has allowed me to excel in my studies and in the workplace as I put my academic knowledge into workplace activities. I gain more confidence as my experiences in the workplace expand and learn something new every day.
I very much enjoy my programme. It has helped me to network with senior investment professionals whom I can learn from first hand as well as apprentices, of a similar age to myself. I can learn whilst working and earning and so I believe it is the best of both worlds.
It is very well organised. We are well aware of our deadlines/programme well in advance to allow us to plan around events.
ASI is very supportive of individuals undertaking qualifications and learning in the workplace and it is very much encouraged. I attend a distance learning university course in Aberdeen whilst working full time in Edinburgh and ASI support me very well allowing me to excel in my studies.
I have a workplace mentor and line manager who are very supportive and help me as I work through my graduate apprenticeship. My employer also encourage my degree and pay the expenses of each graduate apprentice and allow them time to attend university when required to attend exams and on-campus days. The workplace also provide 5 study days each year in addition to our holiday allowance.
I believe my graduate apprenticeship in 'BA Hons Business Management : Financial Services' has allowed me to understand more about ASI and has required me to make connections across the company as I retrieve information for my course. It has also taught me the theory behind the work place practices.
There are lots of professional networking events, this industry is very sociable. There are also regular sporting activities and social nights. We also are entitled to 2 volunteering days each year which are encouraged to be used to make a difference in society from a range of different activities.
Yes
It is a great place to work with many opportunities and a wide variety of roles. ASI treat staff very well and is a great workplace for those who wish to continue their learning journey.
Ensure that they have the right attitude with a willingness to work hard and you will be rewarded.
