Going to different placements around the business to gain knowledge and experience. College days are once a week with Lancaster University. The scheme involves doing diploma work along side learning as much as possible within placements and eventually choosing one of the placements to specialise in the final 2 years of the course.
My networking is greatly improving as I talk to lots of new people all the time. Organisation and time keeping also improves as deadlines need to be met. Team work skills have also been greatly improved due to projects requiring lots of coordination and communication. More skills include presenting, documenting and public speaking.
The programme is very enjoyable when in a good placement. Some placements and areas of the business are better than others, however it is important to figure out which areas you don't enjoy as well as enjoy to help select your exit roles when you come out of your time.
It is fairly well organised. Induction into the business was well organised and communicated. Reviews take place every 12 weeks to ensure we are staying on track and acts as a time to bring forwards any queries we might have. The first 6 training months are very well structured and organised.
The support at BAE is excellent. The early careers managers are always willing to help and understand situations. They consistently try and improve the scheme with constructive feedback from ourselves. The company as a whole offer very good share and pension schemes we can opt into that support us greatly. Overall very good.
The support college give is excellent. They are always free for help and advice. The instructors are very down to earth and easy to get on with. There are multiple facilities available to us such as a library and a laboratory which we can use to help in doing assignments.
Not only are the subjects very interesting and applicable to some of the work we do in our placements, but they also provide practical knowledge that will prove extremely useful in the future. Some of the programmes used in training can be translated into our roles and in the business.
There are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in. They are always advertised by email very frequently meaning there is always a sports tournament or a charity event going on. Anyone can organise these events and many people around the business are always more than happy to take part.
Yes
Its an amazing opportunity for a long lasting successful career at a very supportive company. The treatment experienced here and the level of support provided by the company is absolutely flawless. The scheme allows us to gather a flavour of areas all over the business so we can decide which ones we like and don't like.
Communicate across your enthusiasm and your willingness to work hard. The largest part I've found whilst working here is how important networking is, it is therefore crucial to develop and showcase these skills. Overall a positive attitude will be the key factor and the best advice I could give to applying.
