Assisting within the Radiology Department, Coordinating inpatient scanning and general patient care.
I have developed and improved upon skills that I had already obtained throughout many years in the NHS, backed by the latest evidence based practice.
The Foundation Degree was most enjoyable, however the End Point Assessment has marred the experience due to a general lack of organisation
Initially, the Foundation degree was very well organised. However as the program progressed this deteriorated due to constant staff changes and an almost complete lack of communication. Towards the end of the program it seemed that both staff and students alike were completely unaware what was required of them.
My mentor was incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. It is unfortunate that most other staff members were unaware of my training and that my education department, initially responsible for advertising the position, made no attempt to assess how the program was going.
The support at London Southbank University was very good and I felt confident in achieving the necessary qualifications for the apprenticeship. This was slightly let down towards the end, due to the confusion surrounding staff changes, however overall it was a positive experience.
The Foundation Degree in Healthcare has helped me a great deal by providing clarification to my role as well as an understanding of the underpinning principles of Care. While not specific to my role in Radiology, it has given me a good foundation with which to further my career.
Not as far as I am aware.
Yes
It is a rewarding job that allows for a good deal of personal development. It is by no means an easy career and takes a lot of diligence and patience, however, knowing that you have made a difference is a remarkable feeling.
Be patient, be tolerant and above all else know when to take care of yourself as well as others.
