  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The daily tasks for the Commercial Trainees really do vary, as it depends what function you're in. For example I have been a brand manager, I have been a sales executive and I have been a Alliance for Youth Coordinator. It really depends on the role you're in. With different roles brings different tasks and responsibilities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many new skills whilst being at Nestlé. It's been a journey of self discovery, especially in my second year. I have gained confidence and realised I'm good at things I never thought I was capable of. Nestlé has provided me with multiple training opportunities where I have been able to take time out of the business to go on training courses. This training will not only help me in my professional life but also in my personal life. For example I find it so much easier to communicate face to face, but in Nestle that's not always possible and I really struggled with written communication. Because of this Nestle invested both time and money from the business to pay for me to go on a 'Written Communication' course. It was brilliant!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme. I have met some many amazing people, and Nestlé are so supportive of young people. I have been so lucky to be part of such wonderful teams, which has really made a difference. I feel like I can ask questions whenever I want, and also ask for help whenever I feel like I need it. One thing that is great about the scheme is how close you become with the other commercial trainees. You become a little team of your own.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • Really valued. At the age of 18 I was trusted to manage a brand (obviously with the help of others) but I could make decisions that were really important to the business and the future of the brand. I have had the opportunity to be recognized externally. I have been trusted to represent Nestle without any supervision externally. Which has really helped my confidence and made me realize what I am really capable of. Through working on some really important initiatives for Nestlé I have realised that my opinion is really important.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Really well structured. Nestle plan well in advance what function we're going to go into next, and if you have a burning desire to go somewhere the academy recognize that and try to work to that as much as they possibly can. University is really well planned and structured. Although communication can be difficult at times as we are studying from a distance, it doesn't have a huge impact on the course itself.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We receive so much support as commercial trainees. We have a buddy system where you're paired up with a previous commercial trainee to ask any questions you may have or maybe just for a catch up! Then we have the mentoring system where a senior person in the business is assigned to be your mentor and provides you with advice on progressing your career.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Again, an amazing amount of support from Nestlé. They are so dedicated to progressing their younger talent. There is an endless mount of opportunity at Nestlé and they are prepared to support you any way they can.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It's different for me then others because I live at home. Although I have bills to pay it's not like having a flat on my own. I would say because York is so small it's great for getting about in. We have a great transport service. The train station isn't that far away and we have a bus stop right outside the office. Overall I think for the age we are, and the experience we have when we enter the business it's a great salary compared to others.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Obviously you get your weekends free and there are some social events organised by people in different functions! For example, I'm part of a Netball team with the people I work with!

  • 9. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's brilliant! You get your fees paid for, great experience, amazing people....with the worlds biggest food and beverage company!!!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • Just be yourself and be driven. Nestlé are looking for people with a passion to work in the food and drink industry.
