My role is to help maintain and repair the telecoms network, in the morning I will wake up, pick up some jobs, finish the jobs, all whilst trying to be as productive as possible and drive great customer service.
I have learnt all the required skills about telecoms, i.e how to drive a van, how to install a new line for a customer, how to maintain the network, how to deliver great customer service, how to micro manager my day personally, how to work well within a team .
I really enjoy the programme, I find the tuition spot on and the staff are really helpful and friendly. There needs to be a better work life balance as you end up neglecting the NVQ in favour of learning the job role itself, so can be a struggle to do both.
It is very organised how ever I don't feel like there is a great deal of structure, for the majority of it we just sat in a room and were expected just to carry on with it without much guidance. In the future it would be better if we worked as a team.
We receive a lot of support from the employer, the only problem is, they have an expectation of what is expected from us in terms of reducing the work stack whilst we try our best to do the nvq as well as working on the tools and learning that as well.
Hard question to answer, in terms of our assessor, he is very helpful, in terms of anyone else, we don't really hear from them. Our assessor is always on hand to help out but it can be a struggle as he has a lot of people to help out.
The qualification and the job role are completely different, as you are learning the role as you go where as the qualification, you do it because you have to and not really because it helps the role itself, its a means to end and something that has to be done to get a pay rise.
There are very few events at the job, I think there have been 2 activities, one which I went to and one which I didn't, the one I did go to was enjoyable. I think it would benefit the new recruits if more days out were planned as you don't end up seeing a lot of people.
Yes
Because its a great company to work for, everyone is really friendly and helpful. I love the fact that every day is different and you get to meet a lot of different people. The pay is good and the rewards are fantastic, job progression seems good as well and I look forward to it.
Make sure you do the nvq early, a lot of people left it to the very end before starting it. I would tell them not to get to stressed and to enjoy the training. Take every day as it comes and don't let it get on top of you.
