  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is primarily a Testing role, as that is my operating unit, and involves testing a variety of systems based on who the client is that I am working for at that time. On a day to day basis I am located at a client site for my current project, generally testing and developing the systems that we as a firm are implementing or changing from a previous system.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before I began my apprenticeship I had no idea about testing systems and software, neither did I have that many technical skills; and since being at Deloitte I have learnt so many new skills such as coding, software development, test management, test scripting and execution, along with many more.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my apprenticeship because of the people that I get to work with, the work that I am given and responsibilities that I am trusted with, as well as the endless support system from not only my team but also just other people within the business. The work-life balance is also really important to everyone here and they truly understand that if you need extra time in the evenings or have an appointment/holiday then you are more than welcome to it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme itself is very well structured and the scheme is extremely well laid out; the only issue is with the learning side of the scheme. We currently attend ADA National College to work towards our degree certification and the college itself is very poorly organised and there is no structure there. However, I wouldn't let this change my views of the apprenticeship from Deloitte's side as they are very good at organising the educational side of the apprenticeship as well as ensuring that us apprentices are happy and content with our roles and projects.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • At Deloitte, we have the largest support network possible; we are assigned a buddy to talk to about anything really, a coach for our personal development goals, a dean for our learning purposes and a more senior role we can talk to and then we also have our people lead who represents us in our year end representation meetings to discuss promotions, etc. You really feel like you have anyone to talk to about anything, no matter the matter.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive nearly no support from our training provider at all, we are left to our own devices completely. It's very bad but Deloitte try to help as much as possible.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It does help as it teaches us skills such as coding and software development but I believe we would otherwise learn these skills on our day to day job anyway.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there is any club that you can imagine that you can join and partake in and also time off is granted to take part in such activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is the best decision that I have ever made, so I would want my friends to also do well and enjoy their role/everyday job. However, if they were not the right fit or were not interested in technology or consulting I wouldn't recommend to them, although Deloitte is so large there is a role for everyone really.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • I would say make sure you apply to the correct area in the first instance as it is very important and hard to change areas after you have begun. If you begin in the right area, you will go a long way. Also DONT WORRY - all the questions you have are normal and trust me when I say they will get answered on the job. Nothing is expected of you on your first day as an apprentice.
