My role is to program and maintain many different systems, alongside the maintenance engineers. I am expected to use data gathered in order to determine what is going right and what can be improved. Then I am supposed to act upon what I find. It involves coding PLCs, developing software and also designing software.
I have learned to: - Code using python - Program PLCs - Make 2D and 3D drawings using CAD - Follow wiring diagrams to wire a circuit - Set up a pneumatic and hydraulic rig I have developed: - Communication skills - My team working abilities - Time keeping skills - My ability to work to deadlines - My organisational skills - My confidence
The programme is really interesting and I am thoroughly enjoying it. It has excelled any expectation that I had at the start. The amount of access to equipment and software is fantastic, as is the quality of the equipment. The tutors do a lot to keep it interesting and relative to what we will be doing in the future.
It is very well organised and structured and has been since our induction. We know exactly what we need to do in different areas and are guided by our tutors and mentors through different units. We have good, efficient timetables from week to week and we are informed effectively if anything sways away from those timetables.
We receive plenty of support during the course, whether that be from our tutors if it is education related or through our mentor at Siemens if it is for anything above that. Complaints have been rectified quickly, meetings with our mentor have been arranged when needed and it really feels like Siemens want to get the best out of us.
We receive a great deal of support, our mentor is just a phone call or an email away and has come in to see us upon request when we have needed her. Siemens really do seem to care about us and that we are on track and enjoying our experience.
The course is providing key skills that will help us in our day to day role. Through the use of up to date equipment and software we are given an insight into what our day to day role will be once we start working. It is very hands on and we are given a lot of freedom when it comes to using the facilities available at the college.
There are some events that we can get involved in, we are given updates about different talks and events that are being held and we have been told that if want to organise anything of the sort that we will be supported. This is something that I would like to see more of though.

Amazon gives each and every person the chance to progress. If you have the passion and the drive to develop yourself then they will give you the opportunity. I have progressed from a level one associate onto this course and will hopefully move on to bigger and better things as a result.
The application process is really quick and easy. The interview was extremely enjoyable, it was made up of fun little tasks that allowed you to showcase your skills. The onboarding process was great, we had a few days to get to know each other and get to know the systems that are used. The experience that we have been given is invaluable and the opportunities are endless.
