My job role is to provide a customer with a service. That service being connection to the internet at a speed and bandwidth that the customer has requested. on a day-to-day basis I will complete that task for multiple customer businesses. During this process I also provide the customer with IP's and Other information required for the customer build.
During my apprenticeship so far I have learnt a lot of new skills which will be useful for me in the future. I have learnt the basics of networking, how to build networks and also how to secure a network with the basic knowledge of firewalls. These skills will help me with gaining a CCNA.
I find my experience very enjoyable as it is something I wanted to be involved in for a very long time. The tech industry was always a goal of mine to be apart of and now I am getting the skills required to further my career in this I really enjoy it.
Although my apprenticeship has a good layout the timing of some of the sections have been changed 2 or 3 times. But now we have finally settled on a layout that the trainers are happy with I feel I am making good progress from where I was at the start of the apprenticeship.
I receive a lot of support from Virgin. whether it be on a personal level or a professional level. They have a team dedicated to making sure we are getting the correct training we need and also making sure we aren't just settling at a certain level they are always trying to het us to push ourselves to gain more knowledge.
I receive a lot of support when doing my training as we have a really good trainer. He is there to help me whenever I have a question and even f he isn't in the same city he is available via email and will always get back to me with an answer or a solution to my problem.
The qualification we are working towards is the CCNA. The training that we have had for this will help me majorly in my role. This is because the CCNA covers a wide variety of knowledge about networking, security and also connection types. This helps in my job role as I will have a better understanding of what i am actually doing and knowing how to resolve issues if I ever encounter any.
At my workplace we have had a charity football event which was attended by a lot of members of the teams throughout the Peterborough site. Also every Tuesday a couple members of the team and I play football for an hour to have a good time and socialize. I feel this has helped me to settle in and make friends outside my work team.
Yes
Because it is a great place to work for many reasons. The people are friendly and a laugh and the work itself is interesting. I would recommend though that the friend would need to be interested in IT so that they roughly know what to expect in the daily work aspect.
I would advise that they come into Virgin with an open mind as there are many different places to work throughout Virgin so the place you start wont necessarily mean that that's the team you will be working in your whole time at virgin. Also I would advise that you take every opportunity you can as there are always things to take on and do.
