My day-to-day tasks vary on a daily basis. The team I am a part of is given work regularly by other teams, this is good because it ensure the tasks I carry out each day are different to the tasks the day before. I carry out weekly reports, validate data, analyse data in order to find patterns, trends and mistakes as well as create reports or systems in order to make lives easier.
I have learnt many new skills at Virgin Media. Before I started the apprenticeship I did not know anything about coding languages, just six months in I am now fluent in things I did not know before such as SQL. Virgin Media have also supported me greaty in basic skills that I feel are often overlooked, such as how to talk to people in a workplace you have never spoken to before, or how to construct an email professionally and how to present in a professional manor.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. This is beacause I feel like I am now a part of something important and that the work I do matters. Virgin Media have given me a large amount of responsibility which I feel motivates me. Virgin Media offer me endless support in anything I do and provide me with countless opportunities in order for me to develop myself and my carreer.
My programme is very well structured. My manager and mentor have a great understanding of the programme and provide me with the appropriate work in order to meet my competencies and also help complete the businesses needs at the same time. I attend university (West London) in one week blocks eight times a year. This is very well organised and there is never any confusion or issues that prevent me from learning.
Virgin Media are extremely supportive throughout my apprenticeship. My manager, mentor and older apprentices are always around to answer any questions when I have them and always make time in order to support me in anyhting I do. Virgin Media also provide the funding and facilities in order for me to attend any training I feel I may benefit from as well as the opportunities other business cannot provide. I think this is because Virgin Media are a well established company that have a large budget for apprentices like me.
The University of West London offer me support in order to achieve my qualification. They have also offered and ecouraged me to continue with education after this apprenticeship in order for me to acquire a degree. When I visit the university in one week blocks I feel the lectures are beneficial but 9-5 in the same classroom witht the same lecturer can make concentrating hard at times.
I feel that if I did not attend University that I would still learn the majority of the course through Virgin Media. I think this because my manager and mentor have a great undersatnding of what the course involves and ensure that I learn this through work that they provide me. I feel that what I am taught at university is beneficial but I am more of a 'hands-on' learner and prefer to do something rather than be spoken to about doing it.
Virgin Media provide an enourmous amount of opportunities for me to attend. They have social activities involved with the engagement scheme that host fun events for everyone to be involved in, ranging from bake-offs to quizzes. They also provide me with activities off-site such as networking events and conferences that I benefit from regularly.
Yes
I speak to other friends about their apprenticeship schemes and comapre them to the scheme I am on at Virgin Media, this makes me realise how many opportunities and benefits the company provide me with. It also makes me realise how much support I have around me at Virgin Media and Univeristy. Although there are many other reasons as to why I enjoy being at Virgin so much, I feel these reasons alone are enough to make someone feel wanted andmotivated at a company.
In the application process, I feel they do not always look for who is the smartest person who is the most qualified for the job, although this will always be a factor, Virgin care about their employees and want you to fit into the team you are being hired for, so be yourself and show that you can fit into a team and work with others.
