  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My daily role is being a checkout supervisor which includes looking after till staff, watching over the self scan tills and providing assistance to customers. I also help out with food deliveries and reducing food which is about to go out of date in an attempt to reduce food wastage!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to handle confrontation and resolve customer issues that leave them feeling satisfied with the customer service. I have also learned to complete cashing up procedures, counting tills and resetting them to float level and how to resolve any issues that come up with cash flow issues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I highly enjoy this programme as it allows me to find new ways to expand my customer service knowledge and new ways to approach situations and gain a larger knowledge and appreciation for the working world or retail! I hope to keep gaining new skills as I go along with the apprenticeship

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and organised! At t start it was a bit all of the place but once communication was established it was much easier, the programme is divided into monthly segments with new learning courses and progress is reviewed monthly as well. The end of the apprenticeship is clear and well structured and we know what is expected

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a very large and appreciated amount of support from my employer! My line manager always finds time and creates shifts that revolve around my appointments with my personal trainer! My store manager also helps me with questions and always finds ways to help me fulfil my apprenticeship and be the best I can be with it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive full and extremely helpful support from my trainer! They are always available to contact via email and I can ask any questions I need too and I know they will be answered! They are friendly and polite and always easy to talk to during the progress reviews that are held monthly

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe my qualification will help me see my role in a much larger light and how much of the bigger picture my role contributes to in my workplace, it will allow me to perform at my very best and create more opportunities for progression in my job role too!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are opportunities for extra curricular activities and social events! Our store normally holds a Christmas get together or even a day for staff to get together and socialise and enjoy each other’s company without the stress of work getting in the way! We are all very social with each other.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The Co-op is a fantastic place to work and it’s values and ethics are highly moral and very inspiring too! They focus on local projects and communities and sell local and national produce with an emphasis on British produce and meat and dairy, supporting farmers and fair trade as well


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • My advice would be to always be yourself and confide in your colleagues when you ha be trouble, they’ll always be happy to help and the resources available to you are amazing and can help you get back on track! The customers are fantastic and it feels like we are part of the community in whatever coop we are in
