Working within the Procurement Function can consist of managing a supplier, raising orders, managing debt and having sessions and reviews to comment on performance. Every function is different and the day to day activities vary depending on the team, role and function however every day is different and there are endless opportunities available.
At BAE Systems, you are constantly learning and developing skills such as confidence and communication due to dealing with a range of stakeholders on a daily basis. You are also learning to become more adaptable and flexible due to the rotating placements and job roles. You will develop presenting skills, professionalism and IT skills additionally.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme due to the endless opportunities available. There is so much to get involved in and so much experience to be had - every day offers something different and unique. You are constantly learning and developing professionally and personally and learning new skills to help in later life.
The programme has a sense of structure, however our cohort is the first to go through the new 'End Point Assessment' with a different examination board and we have experienced a lot of change. Due to this, organisation and structure has lacked however it is currently being improved with the next cohort.
The support network at BAE Systems is immense as there are so many people and groups available to approach. If you don't feel you can gain support with your manager, there are so many other confidential networks available. There is an employee helpline and counselling sessions available to every apprentice.
The training sessions are delivered at the ASK (Academy of Skills and Knowledge) by our assessors who are always offering their support and guidance towards the qualification and our general well-being. Again, there are a network of people available for support including our assessors, safeguarding officers and the employee helpline which is available 24/7.
Completing assignments to work towards our qualifications improves performance in our roles in some ways as it makes us aware of legislations and policies which could affect how we work. In addition, assignments set relate to the business alongside our roles which is important for our understanding when we exit into the business.
There are numerous amounts of extra-curricular activities available to apprentices including German Exchange, Prince's Trust, Networking Events, Awareness Sessions, Charity Events and lots more. Apprentices can even take on this initiative themselves and put together an event to raise money for a specific cause or for National Apprenticeship Week.
