I am responsible for doing 4 rotations, one in customer, one in leadership, one in risk and governance and one in strategy. I do 6 months in each placement in various job roles to experience what the different business areas offer within the company. I am given projects to work on independently and as part of a wider team.
Yes I have learnt many skills. I have learnt a lot about leadership and management of a team, especially those where conflicts can arise. I have learnt how to manage a project from start to finish and how to manage the various stakeholders within the business. I have also learnt a lot about communication skills and presentation skills.
I enjoy the programme as it enables me to enhance my leadership and management skills even further. The classes that we attend as part of the programme are really helpful in learning about the various components of leadership, management, self development and project management. Overall I really enjoy it as I am always learning.
The programme is well structured as there are various different modules and assignments. The mentor that we are given is normally available when we need any extra help or support which is good. The length of the course is maybe in my opinion a bit too long and could be condensed down in duration.
Plentiful support is given by my employer. They understand the need for me to have that 70/30 split between my role and my other commitments such as the apprenticeship I am doing. I am always learning on the job and am given time to reflect upon anything new I have learnt.
The training provider provides us with a mentor/coach who conducts monthly calls with us to check how we are progressing and let us know what we need to do before our next meeting. The mentor I have is very caring, friendly and really strives for me to do my best.
I think the qualification really helped me with my second placement working as a line manager, however I have not used as many of the learnt skills in my other placements since this one. I think it definitely helps with development during your leadership rotation as it is more relevant to that role.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved with various social activities at my company, for example many charity days are offered to staff to become involved in to raise funds/awareness for various initiatives. There are also lots of networking events where we get the chance to speak with senior business stakeholders.
Yes
HSBC really do look after you as one of their staff. They understand the trials and tribulations that life can throw at you and place a really big emphasis on health, wellbeing and most importantly mental health in the workplace. I think making staff their number one priority leads to better performance and an open and honest working culture for all.
Be yourself. Do not try and pretend to be someone that you are not because this is so easy to spot. HSBC prides itself on being open, honest and transparent and standing up when you feel something is not right. It is vital to believe in yourself and know you are worthy.
