Visiting clients and gaining financial information and then testing it for legitimacy. I am normally working with an audit senior who will guide me through what I am supposed to do and give me extra tasks to do. I get to liaise with clients which keeps the job interesting and develops my soft skills
I have learnt about financial statements, and how companies log their finances. Externally I am studying towards ACA qualification which will allow me to be recognised as a chartered accountant, increasing my career options and allowing me to have a stable career. As I am speaking to clients regularly I am able to develop my communication skills greatly
I am enjoying where I am and the people I work with. I am on a different job almost every week which gives me exposure to a variety of people. The company culture is a positive one, where people are encouraged to improve themselves. Whenever I have asked questions I have been met with positive answers
The beginning of the programme felt very rushed as we were straight into college just before Christmas. Since my first exams I have had time to settle into jobs without the stress of exams, though that will come back. Contact with appraisers could be better, however this is largely due to the fact that I am not in the office much
I believe I am well supported. When I was revising for my exams, I requested starting early and finishing early to the senior and they had no issues with it and made sure I was putting the time into getting my studies done. This seems to be the same as HR
BPP has been great so far, the tutor was very personable and gave us his email address and a contact number so we could use it if we needed. He also put on an online lesson out of his own time which was a huge help. I have so far enjoyed it
It gives me the background knowledge so I go into jobs knowing more about why things are the way they are. It works the other way as well, I believe that working on the job has been key to passing my exams so far, as it gives me context for why things are that way
There are plenty of socials organised in my office, including away days, meals out and activities. There is also opportunities to do charity days, with the company actively encouraging you to take part, there are up to 10 days of extra leave you can take to take part in these events
Yes
BDO is a good company which has good progression opportunities, this is the most appealing thing as you can see people in senior positions who were where you were 5 years ago. The people I work with are also great, both on a personal and a professional level, they are always willing to help
Make sure to do your research on the company thoroughly, and ensure that you definitely want to do the role you are applying to. It is also important to be as relaxed as possible at any interview days, and do not be afraid to ask any questions you may have
