  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • I worked with one of M&G’s employer in the IT department and I was able to different experts within the IT department with different roles and gain an understanding into the different roles within the department and what is required of the employers on a day to day basis. I also took part in a group project where my team and I were expected to research a particular topic and deliver a presentation in front of a group of other students and managers.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • 2. I certainly built upon my communication and interpersonal skills through speaking with different employees and during networking sessions, networking skills, teamwork and leaderships skills as well. When planning the project that we had to research, my team and I were able to work collaboratively together and help one another. I was able to help others on areas which they couldn’t understand and I received help also when I was struggling with a certain thing.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • The work experience was well organised and there’s little things that I would comment on for improvement. There was a clear structure and plan of what each day looked like. The only thing that I thought would have been better is if there was more opportunities to actually see more of the work that the employees have to do themselves on a day to day basis. That would help to put everything to perspective a little better

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • 5. I learnt soo much about the company culture and that is certain if something that stood out to me about M&G in comparison to other companies. There’s diversity at M&G and it seems that there’s a lot of support provided to apprentice and I’m saying this based on the things that I’ve heard from manager and from ex apprentice themselves. M&G’s values also aligns closely with my personal values and I place as much value on respect as much as the company does. From my visit to M&G, I can see that there is a lot of respect within the organisation as they welcomed me with warm arms.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • My work experience at M&G has been very useful for me to explore and understand the different departments in the financial industry however I think that I will continue to keep my options open and explore the sector more so I can decide which role will be best suited to me. The IT department is definitely something of my interest now and I’m looking forward to gaining more experience as I proceed with my journey of building a potentially successful career path

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Yeah, there was a lot of opportunities to speak with M&G employees first hand and get an insight into their day to day roles. I also got the chance to speak with ex apprentice who have gone down down the path that I’m looking into going down so it was very helpful hearing from them and understanding their background and experience of working at M&G

  • 9a. Would you recommend M&G to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My experience at M&G was amazing. I was impressed by how diverse the company is and I got the opportunity to connect with amazing people. M&G has exceeded my expectations of how I think that people in the industry behave and I loved every moment that I spent there. It was fun and interactive so that kept the mood going. All thanks to Maria Wilcockson

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • Be confident and be yourself. M&G gives you a space to feel at home and comfortable so that will allow you to really bring out the amazing side to you. Also, use every chance that you have to ask really hard questions, so if that means planning out your questions prior to going to M&G then do so. Stand out and flourish
