I work in audit which consists of meeting new clients often and checking to make sure all of their books are correct. Every day is always different. I am constantly learning new skills and meeting new people. I get given a high level of responsibility with my role as we have to learn to be professionally sceptical and follow what we think is correct. Help is always given, but responsibility is a huge part of growth.
I have learnt many new skills! I use Excel and many different audit software's which are used every single day. Improving on my Excel skills has been a huge development in my role. Also, my confidence has grown rapidly due to meeting new people every week. Meeting new clients can be nerve-racking, but this job has improved my talking skills so i feel less nervous.
I enjoy the programme most for the fact that i have met so many new people and friends for life. The social side to the job is huge, there are events regularly so that you can meet new people and broaden your circle. I also travel with some of my clients and that is also very enjoyable.
The programme is well organised. We have regular training and exams are structured well. For my school leaver programme, we have reasonable breaks in-between all exams which makes them a lot easier to revise for. Training is also very helpful and this is set up very regularly so that we are constantly learning new skills.
The support from the job is good. Every one that joins the firm gets a 'buddy' and a counselling manager who are there to support you if you have an questions or concerns. The job can be very busy at times meaning these people may not always have the capacity to help but they always try their best.
The training provider gives a lot of support when approaching exams. They have many online videos, mock exams, study guides and lots more. In general they also provide support for day-to-day audit life. If you ever have a question they are happy to help and can give you the support that you need.
The exams that i do most definitely help in my day to day role when it comes to the work that i do. The exams teach you major skills that you need to know and tricky words that you may not have heard or understood before the exam. This is particularly important for my role.
There are many social activities that are help within the job. As the firm is very large with many employees, everyone is split into different sectors and these sectors hold a wide amount of social activities for everyone to get to know each other. I do not get involved in any sports teams, but there are many to choose from if you were interested.
Yes
Everyone that works for BDO are friendly and are always happy to help. i have met some great people that i meet up with outside of work. The social life is great as there are many social events and the work is always interesting and sometimes fun - especially when you get to travel.
The advice i would give is to be as confident as you can be as this shows the employer exactly what you would be like when meeting clients for the first time. Making a good first impression is key. You also want to stand out from the crowd, don't sit back!
