I support senior colleagues on engagements in the financial services sector. The projects range from internal audit, prudential and regulatory reporting, and risk and governance reviews. 20% of my time is dedicated to learning the skills and behaviours relevant to my apprenticeship, including classroom time and distance learning.
Yes. I have learned technical skills relevant towards my professional qualification (ACA), including accounting and assessing risk. I have also developed soft skills, including interviewing client staff and presenting to clients.
It's fantastic. The work I do is interesting and relevant to my professional qualification, and I am given the time and training to succeed. I am given additional responsibilities and really feel like I'm developing.
Reasonably well. We are given enough time to learn, and are not pressured into working when we should be studying. The learning is balanced between classroom based and distance learning, which I find works well.
As much as we need. We have a professional qualifications team on hand to lend support. Additionally, more senior colleagues and partners who have passed through the apprenticeship, or similar programmes, are always happy to answer questions and provide guidance.
Enough to succeed. The skills and behaviours relevant to our qualification are interwoven with our day-to-day work, and additional training courses are available to reinforce them. We have a counselling manager with whom we get regular face-time, whose role is to support us through our apprenticeship.
The qualification is vital to the role. The understanding and appreciation of risk underpins the engagements we have with clients, and the technical accounting skills are also relevant to internal audit.
Yes. There are many social clubs, professional networking events, industry events, and organised charitable events.
Yes
The employer supports us well through the apprenticeship, the pay is competitive, and there is a clear path for progress during and after the apprenticeship.
BDO welcomes apprentices from all backgrounds and with varying skillsets. I would encourage you to be yourself through the interviewing process, rather than who you think BDO might want you to be. BDO values people being themselves.
