my role at work day to day consists of mostly planned maintenance, calibrating instrumentation, wiring motors, fault finding on electrical circuits, changing light fittings and SIS Testing. it can also change to be more of a reactive maintenance role if a call comes into the workshop that something has gone down or is not working we can be on the job communicating with the automation department working the job out.
I have gained many skills during my time as an apprentice such as team working, problem solving but also more practical skills like how a SIS Testing is carried out writing procedures and developing my hand work skills actually on the job. I have also developed skills that I already had a good grasp of such as manual labour how to do things in a safe controlled manner
I really enjoy my program from a work point of view as we are always looking at new things its not the same day in day out we have always got some sort of challenge to over come and adapt to. I am always given the chance to do things I enjoy and try new things.
the program from a college point of view hasn't been the best as it has lacked organisation and quality from the start. Having said that the program which we have being following at the workplace has been great and has allowed me to develop my skills in areas I lacked.
my employer has been fantastic during my apprenticeship helping with anything that has been raised and has gave me every opportunity I could ask for. such as training opportunities with various companies, help with any technical problems I may encounter and they even went as far as helping me relocate from Middlesbrough to Bradford for my training.
not as much as we would have liked the training provider has been slow to address vital flaws within its own system and I as a learner have suffered greatly in the quality of the support given. it has been slow and filled with problems in some of the units.
due to problems i have experienced with the training provider it is hard to gauge what has helped me perform better. I feel like 95% of my skills have came from my employer and 5% from my training provider the training received could have been delivered to a much higher standard than what it was.
yes there are plenty of platforms in which I can engage in extra-curricular activities I myself have been on a trip to London for an awards evening, play 5-aside at a local sports center and also helped recruit more apprentices at careers evenings. we have a spots and social forum where we can access discounted tickets to sporting events theme parks and local facilities.
Yes
