Contract and procurement management - With a heavy reliance on stakeholder management: both internal and external. Facilitating payment, ensuring accurate application for payment and contract delivery. Seeking resolutions when required. Also responding to the needs of the business, and carrying out the necessary procurement and tendering process in line with governance and OJEU contract regulations.
Yes, I have learnt the procurement cycle and how to logically progress around this to achieve value for money whilst adhering to the businesses objectives. New skills have also included presentation skills, resolution skills and people management skills - both internal and external and how to manage conflict in a professional way.
The course has been both engaging and appropriate for the work and has directly related to what I have to do day to day which has been good. It has taught me the theory behind the practical day to day activities which I have to do. Increasing confidence and ability.
The programme follows 5 text books, so that has been useful as they each cover different element of procurement and supply. The lessons are predominately around these text books which is good in the sense that if you miss a session you can catch up. But some might not be motivated to attend college if they believe they can learn ot themselves
I think I received a good level of support. They asked about it and I got my study day weekly. If there was a reason i.e. hand in or exam etc. I feel confident that they would support me and assist if I had questions which they could help with.
The training provider was difficult to communicate with at times due to their personality and they way in which they engaged with people but the tutor themselves were really good and were available to help when required. They were engaged and happy to answer as many questions as necessary. Also interesting to learn from
I think that the qualification will help me when I come to do a large procurement as I now have the theory behind it and it helps me to feel more confident when taking on challenges which I haven't before. I feel that its given me both confidence and the theoretical knowledge behind content.
Yes, there is a range of additional activities. Most teams have a variety of social events and there are many extra teams and clubs i.e football teams. sports at lunchtime. Meditation etc. There are also networking events with a range of other businesses and different people within the organisation
Yes
Transport for London is a great place to work for apprentices. Most managers are now used to having apprentices and provide support. Also the organisation supports the transition and development of apprentices throughout the programme and the range of placements that they offer. It is a good alternative to uni.
Be confident and be excited by the prospect of working for such a varied and successful business. Each department in TfL is an opportunity to help and be part of the greater team which keeps London moving. It is exciting and varied and if you show your commitment and drive you will be fine
