My job involves being part of a team to complete the audit, often doing the cash and share capital sections, speaking to clients regarding queries and ensuring any issues are resolved. We are there to ensure the information produced by an entity gives a true and fair view of their financial position
I have got better at managing my time especially during busy season when things can get a bit hectic as you have to manage a workload from multiple jobs. My confidence has also developed as you are treated like an adult and I feel I have matured due to having my own income every month
I enjoy the program I am on as it is only one year longer than a uni degree but you become a chartered accountant at the end- which is a stable career. This is also without all the debt of uni. The program at times can feel incredibly long but you know once it is complete you are set for life really
The program has a clear structure that is set out to you at the start and is in a methodical order. However, sometimes it can feel as though it takes too longs to do exams and that the end is far off. However, this ensures you gain all the practical experience and not just the qualifications
Everyone is given a counselling manager whom they catch up with every other week. this gives you a voice in the senior leadership team. additionally, your buddy is often one year older so has the right knowledge to help but doesn't seem too scary
The training provider BPP provides you with all the ICAEW published guides and practice as well as their own so you have plenty of resources at your disposal. They also are available over email and you can pop in to see them if needs be. There are checkpoints for each exam so you can track your progress
The training provided by BPP allows you to have the basic knowledge and understanding as to why procedures are carried out. It also provides you with knowledge of basic rules and regulations. This then makes them easier to perform as you know the end result you are aiming for in the end.
There are a few, their is a boys football team that plays twice weekly and the occasional drink however this is not too frequent although it is a target within the firm to increase social activity. In my intake we also arrange lots of events so we see eachother a lot
Yes
I feel BDO has the right atmosphere towards working and social life. Unlike the big four people can manage their work and personal life fairly easily. Moreover, the people that work at BDO are not the stereotype accountants so you can relate to people not just about work topics but other matter such as Love Island
Do your research into the company and ensure you can show how you have demonstrated the core values in other work environments. Additionally, when in the office for the assessment centre make sure to make friends with other people there and not to view them as competition. BDO offers jobs for the people rather than filling a quota of people.
