Responsible for the management of MMU space data and Cad drawings. Responsible for small project work feasibility and project support. My role helps provide co-ordination between project documentation and the current CAFM system that allows for every space in the university to be referenced. My role also extends to providing support for space numbering, way finding, emergency action planning, accessibility planning.
Through the apprenticeship I have picked up new skills that have aided the management and analysis of space data. By introducing the department to software such Power Bi has changed the way people interact with data. I have also received a broad understanding of some of the processes with machine learning and changing the way data is managed.
The degree apprenticeship offered my access to a varied selection of courses such as web design, programming and technical management. I found that I really enjoyed being creative with my approach to some of the tasks that were set. I was also very happy with the teaching environment and tutors.
The programme was structured to make sure as the classes that were made up of people with different levels of experience which could still provide a challenge/interest. The teaching built on skills week by week to help students have the skills and knowledge for the final submissions and exams.
My employer was very supportive of the apprenticeship degree, from initially recommending that I undertake the course to offering time off to study. My employer was always approachable to discuss any issues that i may of had with the training. He was also very keen to be involved with the student liaison in discussing possible opportunities or potential project work.
Manchester Metropolitan University offered a wide range of support with the training, which ranged from additional weekend training, online video support and 1 to 1's. The student liaison staff were also key in helping through their support, knowledge and guidance. All the staff I dealt with were very open, helpful and willing provide support where possible.
The main aim of taking on the degree apprenticeship was to gain new skills that would be able to assist my day to day with data for the Estates department. The skills I have learnt have had a positive impact on my role by helping me implement new methods for managing and maintaining data. This has not only benefited me but has also improved efficiency in the Estates department.
At Manchester Metropolitan University there a plenty of opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities. I have predominately participated in some of the social events and networking events. I have found these opportunities to be great for extending my relationships with other organisations and institutions. There have been many opportunities to join in sporting events, such as running the marathons but that really isn't for me.
Yes
The university is dedicated to providing world class facilities for both staff and students alike and offers opportunities for staff to grow. By being fully supportive and allowing staff to expand their potential skills and knowledge has been a real benefit. It has increased my employ-ability as well being able to have the skills learnt in the classroom brought into the workplace.
Working in the Estates department for a university offers staff a wide range of opportunities and a variety work which can change day by day. The university is currently in a highly exciting time of expansion and change. Working here and now, is helping establish the foundations for the next generation of staff and students. This moment in time offers staff opportunities to create new buildings, new ways of working, teaching environments which can influence how people interact and learn as well creating a relationship with the city.
