The role can involve a variety of actions, including liaising with senior engineering leads, carrying out analysis, presenting data and feedback to stakeholders, and talking with customers. Every day is different and the role is challenging!
Yes, I have learnt skills regarding coding and using tools such as model based systems engineering, as well as other ways to think about problem solving such as systems thinking.
I do enjoy my programme a lot as it gives me an Engineering qualification but also allows me to work on real work in my day job. This can be hard to juggle but it is good to rise to the challenge of doing so.
It is very structured - we have regular reviews with a skills coach every 12 weeks, as well as reviews with our placement managers every 6 months. We get regular feedback from senior stakeholders and peers about our performance and the training programme is clear and understandable.
I receive a lot of support from BAE Systems. They are a fantastic employer to work for and provide many fringe benefits such as flexible working, generous holiday and sick leave, cycle-to-work schemes and a share scheme. They are also very understanding regarding pastoral matters.
We are able to access our provider through e-mail and through a series of modules that involves learning remotely through digital learning. They are always helpful to answer questions however distance learning does make this more difficult.
I believe that it gives me a good grounding in Engineering process and policy, and that it gives me a good background in Engineering too as my background is in Physics.
Yes, various sports activities such as Couch 2 5K, football and basketball teams, work nights out, professional development events at lunchtime and also chances to get involved in extra-work activities at your own discretion.
Yes
They are a good employer that is known worldwide, that looks after its staff and knows it needs to cater to its employees needs as well as looking to deliver on its commitments to customers. I would strongly recommend the company to anyone looking for a career in Engineering.
Do your research, understand the company market and its products, be enthusiastic and talk about what you can bring to a role when applying.
