I coordinate the day to day running of Mithcells & Butlers' Culinary apprenticeship programme (Chefs' Academy) and some of our company kitchen training programmes. I also quality assure aspects of the Chefs' Academy programme by attending regular training sessions, carrying out interviews and surveys with learners, managers, tutors, and shadowing theoretical sessions with our training provider.
I have learnt the different elements involved in carrying out a full quality assurance process and developed my qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills. I have also developed my Excel skills as I am getting increasingly more involved in providing reportage on programme and learner performance to Chefs' Academy's various stakeholders.
There are aspects of the programme that seem slightly disorganised such as communicating new workshop dates and locations and arranging going into Gateway but Crosby has always been good with responding to feedback and improving upon their weaknesses.
It took a while to adjust to incorporating my apprenticeship work into my day job and my employer struggled at the start to give me the necessary time to complete this, but things have gotten better as I have neared the end of my course and now I know where the support is available to me going into my final assessment.
My tutor has been great and she has offered me lots of support throughout my apprenticeship. If I ever have a question or an issue with an assignment she will email me straight back with guidance or arrange a call for the next day to talk it through with me.
I have learnt a lot about carrying out both qualitative and quantitative research towards an end goal and this has helped me massively when undertaking quality assurance exercises for the apprenticeship programme that I manage. I have also developed more confidence in approaching senior managers in my organisation through gaining a deeper understanding of the HR sector as a whole.
There are quite a lot of things available but only really for the employees that are based in head office in Birmingham. Because I live in London I don't get to take full advantage of these unless I am prepared to travel.

There is a great deal of flexibility when you work in a support role for Mitchells & Butlers which allows you to maintain a decent work/life balance if you manage your time effectively. M&B also invest a lot in our people so there are always opportunities to develop yourself and take on extra training. The benefits package is also very competitive and offers a wide range of perks to suit everyone.
Be prepared to work hard and become very invested in your role very early on but it will be really rewarding and enjoyable because of this.
