The apprenticeship invloves everyday interactions with customers and colleagues within the company. With beginning the first three months in training you are fully prepared before going out onto the main sales floor. You are introduced to the whole buisness and get the chance to work in a specific buisness unit for two months, being exposed to more detail in a certain area of the buisness. Throughout the role you are given projects, resposibilities and challenged to do and try your best. It means you are exposed to external and internal interactions giving you experience to mention in your portfolio and apprenticeship work that needs logging mst days.
At the start of my apprenticeship I found that one of the things I struggled with personally was during meetings and group discussions I was very shy along side being uncomfortable as I thought my ideas or opinions were silly. This almost made it seem that I wasnt listening or engaged therefor coming accross abit rude. Although over the outward bound course we completed at the lake district, I came out of my shell alot and found I had really improved with my confidence. Since coming back from the trip it has helped me at Tech Data to go foward with my apprenticeship as I am able to speak up in group discussions to give my point but listen to others thoughts at the same time. I think it is a great skill to have learnt as I can put it forward to my job role and everyday life.
I think the structure of the apprenticeship programme could not be faulted as from the start it helps slowly introduce you to the everday life of full time work with such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The team has such a wide variety of people as we found out in our insights but putting this aside everyone has grown so close throughout the course supporting eachother and working together. I was not sure what to expect from the course when starting but I am very pleased woth how everyting has planned out.
The organsation is very well planned out by our manager as after knowing what to expect from the first group she was able to adjust any fixes or time issues that happened. Giving us a chance to start all the apprentice work from the beginning, providing us all with an advantage of not getting left behind with coursework once we were put into our buisness units.
I personally have received so much support throughout the program. I have been able to have that extra push, that I do sometimes need to tell me "I can do this". This support has helped me alot as it has given me the extra confidence to put myself out of my comfort zone
Our apprentice coach provides so much support towards tasks that need completing and makes the effort to travel to Tech Data once a month to speak to all of us, sending across feedback from the meeting after with what needs completeing. Although if we do need to speak to him before the meeting we are able to schedule a call with him to speak about any issues we are having with the coursework.
I think it helps me alot as I am able to understand what I need to work on and be able to plan out a time to complete it without my coursework interfering with on the job work. Aswell as this, it helps me not get left behind on coursework therefore making it alot less stressful.
Yes at Tech Data there are a few extra curricular opportunities such as the social club that has out of work activities paid for by the company that happen once a month in a first come first serve basis that usually happens wih around thirty people max depending on tha activity. An example of a few that have happened in the fast are go karting and junkyard golf with all expenses paid for. I personally havent joined the club although it does seem like fun.
Yes
As I have felt Tech Data has supported me since the beginning of my apprenticeship and think it is a geat introduction to full time work life that alot of my friends havent done due to still being at college until Summer. It slowly helps you understand how you should behave as it is alot different to school.
To just be freindly, humble, approachable and professional would be my tips for anyone applying to Tech Data or any other job similair to this. Its definetly important to get along with the people you work with as you will be seeing them everyday and it just makes the whole work enviorement alot easier if you resepect everyone as they will most likely treat you the same way. The assessment day does evaluate this, how you get along in a team whether you sit back or take charge thats mainly judging your personality. It is a great opportunity for managers to get a better idea of if you would fit in with their team and be a good addition to the company.
