Sorting attendance data / Return to work interviews with students that have been off ill or haven't provided a reason for being absent / sending out letters to parents regarding attendance and behavior issues with students / setting up exams during exam season / assisting my supervisor with things she may need doing (copying/printing/filing) / exam and safeguard filing / calling parents & guardians on a day to day basis to check why their kids haven't come in to school
I'm more proficient in Excel / I can confidently use SIMS (Registration System) and very rarely have to ask for assistance / can fill out the attendance tracker at the end of every week without assistance / I feel like I'm better at writing Emails in a professional manner / more knowledgeable about safeguarding which is necessary for my job
In terms of the school / staff / students, they've made me feel welcome and comfortable and I like the atmosphere. In terms of the actual apprenticeship I feel like some of the task set are a bit unnecessary, I might realise the worth of some of these tasks in the future, but at the moment I'm just doing it because I have to. Some of the tasks are helpful e.g safeguarding and the GDPR stuff, but some other things just seem a bit pointless to me.
I'd say it's fairly well organised. I get set a good amount of tasks a month and have enough time to complete them without having to rush through them. I like that it shows me my progress as I submit each task and it makes me feel like I'm making good and quick progress.
A good amount, but it's not just one person helping, multiple people chip in for different aspects of my job. One person helped me to understand the register system, another helped with attendance tracking, another taught me how to talk to students when I have meetings with them and multiple people have offered to help me if I need anything.
I'd say just the right amount. We have meetings on the phone and meetings in person and those alternate every few weeks. In these meetings we go through how I'm getting on with my apprenticeship / run through the tasks I've already been set and how I'm getting on with them / run through the tasks I'm going to be given and if I understand them. I also have the option to ring/email my trainer whenever I want and ask for advice/assistance.
Quite well. On a day-to-day basis not so much, but in the grand scheme of things, quite a lot. I get taught things I can use in and out of the workplace and these are things that I can take to future job roles too. The first thing that comes to mind is safeguard training. I need to know safeguarding in and out at this job and probably jobs in the future too and I've gone through that in depth because of this qualification
There are! I've only been here just under two months and I've already been invited to a birthday and a staff night out (both of which I couldn't attend since I already made plans) but I'm glad I was asked. There's an e-sports team which I've been asked to check out, but I don't really play those games, but again, I appreciated the thought.
Yes
It's a nice working environment and everyone's friendly which is all you can ask for really. They were also patient with me as I learnt things and I didn't feel rushed or pressured which was very nice. I think that's all that needs to be said.
It isn't a "naughty school" which is what most people's first impressions are of the place before they even go inside, so I'd say go in with an open mind. There may only be 50 pupils per year, but don't think that means there's less work to do.
