home delivery driver- checking vehicle loading and delivering goods. Liaising with customers in store and when delivering. Also working closely with my colleagues. Making sure that I work in line with the Iceland way.
Driving wise I have learned how to be more economical with my driving. Keeping the MPG figures up. I have also gained knowledge on a commercial drivers responsibilities when driving on the road. New data protection information has also been one of the things I have learned.
The job is what it is, It is hard work but I am not concerned about that. I enjoy the customer contact and looking after them if I have too. Team work is something that the store needs to work on. As for the qualification it has helped me, I have learned new things, I hope to get a reduction in my insurance and it has all been good.
The qualification was well organised and I had contact from all areas when planning was being set up. There was an induction which explained all areas of the award and the training and contact was on a regular monthly basis. I was provided with all contact details of the teachers/assessors and they were available to speak too when ever I needed them. All the sessions were planned in advance.
I was provided with support from the store originally however at some points the store forgot to organise things there end which meant that after some of the sessions I had to basically work harder to get things done as they forgot to get cover for me.
The training provider has helped me from the start. If I was concerned or worried about anything then I would always have the help from them to ease any worries. All assessors were spot on and good fun to work with. They were friendly and would go that extra mile to explain things to me if I was unsure of anything. I have enjoyed all the sessions as I feel I will benefit.
I have focused on the mpg a lot more now and also have the knowledge to say anything to my manager if I feel that there is an issue with my van. I am more aware of the legal aspects of driving and feel more comfortable with my knowledge in the workplace.
We used to have parties and things like that but my store has been through the mill so we do not have many events now.
No
The job is very fast paced, the staff turnover is very high including managers and the internal driving is not as good as it should be.
I would do your research first, look at alternatives and look at how much you earn. As for the qualification I would suggest that everyone should do the course so they can be taught new skills and knowledge.
