  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day you go into work and are assigned to a fitter on both the morning and afternoon shift. You will then proceed to shadow them and help them to complete the job. This involves knocking bolts in or drilling holes. One day a week you go to college and study there and the rest of the week you go to the factory.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • You learn a lot of new skills during the apprenticeship not just hands on skills but also communication and team work skills. The hand skills you learn are first done in college in the first year and then these are transferee and used in the factory in the second and third year.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was really good as you got to go on trips to the outward bound for a week and also get the chance to go to Hamburg or Toulouse for a week as well in the 3rd year. It was really enjoyable throughout and I am really glad I chose this apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is structure well so the first year is solely in college and the second and third year is in the factory with just the one day in college. It is well organised and you do four 6 months placement around the factory which you gain a lot of experience.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You receive a lot of support throughout and this is very welcoming as it makes you feel at ease. If you have any problems in work you can use them for help as well wether that be your manager or the occupational health centre where they look after you as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards your qualifications you get support from your employer and the college to make sure you pass and to progress though the course. This is good as the employer comes to the college to make sure you are on track and if not they help you though it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification achieved helps you to progress and do well at the company as you become a skilled fitter which is a good role to have. Also if you want to progress this qualification helps you go to the next stages in your career

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are plenty of extra things to do like generation airbus which is grads interns and apprentices in a big group to choose different activities they would like to do wether that is socialising in Chester or days out. These help your networking at Airbus.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a really good scheme to get into and you get a good qualification to achieve. Also the help and support you get are excellent. Furthermore the work you do is really rewarding and you learn a lot. Airbus is a good company to work for and there is plenty of progression.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Airbus?
  • Make sure your cv is correct and try to be as confident as you can in the online interview. Furthermore work as a team in the group activity and also make sure you stand up and be counted. Don’t hide or not say anything as they like you to take part.
