Assisting qualified aircraft fitters with activities which allow me to develop my own skills. This is a hands on approach which you cannot get in college. I work 3 days inside the Airbus Factory and 1 day doing academic at Coleg Cumbria. This provides me with a varied approach to the way I learn.
Talking to people from different backgrounds and job roles inside the business has enabled me to be more confident with communicating. My hand skills have developed using a wide range of tooling inside of work. Also, completing assignments has allowed me to develop my knowledge of the subjects associated with my role.
I enjoy working towards something and seeing myself progress through the apprenticeship with quality gates and NVQ percentages which allow me to track my progress. I also enjoy talking to different people from different backgrounds. I sometimes don’t enjoy the job I get given however I’m sure this may change once I am qualified.
As stated above you can monitor and track your progress using the NVQ percentage and Quality Gates provided by our employer. This allows you to see where you are at and plan ahead to ensure you keep on track. I have a set college day with dates issued for assignments to be handed in.
Airbus are extremely helpful with everything to be completely honest. Whatever it may be the management team will try their best to assist you in any way possible. They have an occupational health department which can aid you with things like physio or even mental health treatment. My experience with the support here at Airbus has been extremely positive.
In terms of our academic days we are taught whatever subject and the lesson will be uploaded onto Google Classroom. This is beneficial as you can access the lesson from home when you are completing the assignments. If you do not understand something or cannot find what you are looking for the tutors will always point you in the right direction.
The subjects we learn in college gives us an understanding of what we are doing and why it is important that we do it correctly. The on job assessments and NVQ allows us to complete activities which enhance our own skills. It gives you more confidence on the job as you progress.
There’s a lot to do with work outside the workplace they have many different activities going on all the time. Since I’ve worked here there has been football tournaments in order to raise money for charity. There has been an open mic night and volunteers have even walked up Mount Snowdon.
Yes
I just think it’s a good opportunity it’s very well organised and I feel secure financially working here. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s a step in the right direction for sure, even if it’s something that you do not want to pursue after the apprenticeship has finished completing your apprenticeship here wouldn’t hinder any other career you wanted to pursue.
To get involved as much as you can there’s a lot going on that you don’t realise if you don’t pay attention to it. Ask about things even if you feel you may not be able to do them as there are many opportunities within the company.
