My daily role depends on what placement I am completing at the time. My current placement is in the Wing Structure Repair team. I worked in both daily repairs and engineering queries. I am a trusted member of the team completing work both independently and with support if required.
Airbus is such a supportive company, they really want all employees to succeed. There are apprentice core training courses to further develop us but equally if there is something specific that you want to develop all you have to do is ask and it will be arranged - IE. Public Speaking.
The apprenticeship has been extremely enjoyable, I love learning from top professionals. To have the support from a company and be able to drive my own development. If I don't understand something at College, people want to help they link it to Airbus, which suits my learning style.
I was the first Technical Data apprentice at Airbus, there were a few hiccups when I first started. Due to being the first Technical Data apprentice I got to be involved in adapting and improving the scheme - my input was valued and suggestions taken on.
Airbus does nothing but support me: academically, developing soft skills and networking. I have been provided with many great opportunities. I have also been recognised for the effort that I have put into my apprenticeship which is another way that they support by continuing to motivate.
City of Bristol College was my training provider for: BTEC and NVQ. There was a mix of support. The class I was in had students completing different qualifications, at the end of the year there were aspects missing. However, the next year teachers were aware, the issue didn't reoccur.
The BTEC was not aviation related, but it was engineering, it covered core subjects which I could apply to the working environment with the help of colleagues. The NVQ provided me with basic hand skills, although this is not something I use its been so beneficial to understand the process.
There are lots of extra things to get involved in from professional talks, networking lunches, hosting, socials, sports teams and volunteering to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) to young people. The apprenticeship offers an Outward Bound course which is team build and soft skill development for transnational apprentices.
Yes
I have developed so many skills and also gain qualifications. From working in different teams I know what I want to do at the end of my apprenticeship. My confidence has really grown because of the scheme and I know I will continue to develop with the support of Airbus.
