  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Servicing corporate banking clients, processing credit applications and risk management.

    6/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt a lot through doing the job, not so much from the training provider.

    5/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I've enjoyed the programme but it is difficult to fit in the off-the-job training when working in a busy environment. It's not always realistic to have 20% off-the-job and it creates a lot of pressure.

    4/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Not very well structured and organised as I have had 3 talent coaches in the space of 18 months so very little consistency.

    4/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Employer was always supportive and tried to organise breaks from the job to do focus on development

    8/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Very little

    4/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't think that the qualification helped me perform in my role other than the fact that it gives you and understanding of the rational behind procedures and processes.

    5/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I'm in a football team and part of a networking event for young professionals.

    8/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • A lot of potential for developing in an international bank with lots of growth opportunities if you're prepared to work hard.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Make sure you have some great examples of where you have demonstrated the key responsibilities. Listen to the FT banking weekly podcast to get an understanding of challenges facing the industry. Have genuine reasons as to why you want to work in the industry.
