I work in the purchasing hub and we are responsible for ordering all necessary equipment, supplies, furniture and uniforms within the council. I also review CCDM transactions and search for cheaper/best value items to meet the needs of different services. Carry out general administrative duties on a daily basis.
I have developed my customer service skills as I can now communicate more effectively with people over the phone. I have gained skills in learning ordering processes and transaction reviewing, taking and writing minutes of meetings. This job has also enabled me to work to deadlines and be more organised.
I enjoy my programme as it is extra work to do and I enjoy the written tasks and preparing for exams.
I had a lot of problems at the start of my programme but ever since I got a new trainer the structure of my programme is a lot more punctual and I know where I am with my progress and workload.
I receive a lot of support from my employer as when Babington was not supportive and I was confused with what was happening regarding my trainer my manager helped me a lot with my workload and was trying to get in touch with the provider to sort this.
My new trainer who I have had since the end of last year has been a lot better and supports me with my progress. She explains things to me much more clearly and regularly checks to make sure I am okay with the workload.
My trainer now encourages me to try do the best I can with my work and sets me reasonable workloads that she knows I am capable of doing. She also encourages me to consider doing the next level NVQ as she believes I would enjoy it and succeed.
There are several networks that can be joined to do with different things. These can be after work, during work, or in lunch breaks.
Yes
many opportunities to progress in future careers and plenty of support and helplines from managers and helplines in the council network.
Be yourself.
