My role has involved the creation of a new Quality Assurance team. This team is conducting audits and evaluations of the adherence to processes and procedures throughout the claims process. We needed to devise and plan these audits and build our own processes and feedback loops to senior management.
Project Management was an entirely new discipline to me and I have learnt some new techniques and applied them. Interestingly I had already been using some methodologies without knowing there was a specific academic theory around them. It has helped me generally with organization as these are transferable skills.
I have enjoyed learning the theory around project management and having the opportunity to speak to the other students on the course has given me greater reach across the business. practical application of organizational methods has also helped me in the project of setting up the new department.
Skills4Stem seem to have been unprepared to run a program of this nature within a corporate office based environment. The first session had a stand in tutor, and the replacement tutor has now been replaced after approx. 1 year and just as our exam approaches. lots of miscommunication.
A fair amount, allowing me 1 day a month to attend a study session, however, the 20% of the time "off the job" was not explained at the outset and has proved really difficult to do with the pressures of a management position in the organization.
Whilst the tutoring sessions have proven useful, the lack of 1 to 1's and confusing signals from the training provider has resulted in a distrust of what they say and feeling unsupported.
I am not certain it will be directly applicable in full, but each task I complete I do now approach as a mini project which has improved my organization.
Yes, however, due to my commute and family commitments outside of work I have minimal capacity to participate.
Yes
It is a good place to work, however, it has a unique corporate structure due to a heavy emphasis on promoting from within. To those coming in externally, this can take some time to adjust to.
Be prepared to work hard, especially if you are based in the branch network. Also be prepared for a corporate structure that is very americanised. But also be prepared to have fun and work with a very diverse and enthusiastic bunch of people.
