  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Daily tasks include working on my own files, such as drafting correspondence or replies to queries, to ensure that they are progressing. I also assist others, ad hoc, with research or drafting. Daily internal interactions are generally with my supervisor and other members of my team, and externally, depending on the day, I could have to call third parties, but not too often.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Definitely both. I have developed a lot more confidence and am able to communicate better. Formal internal training is lacking, but I find that if I have a question, I feel that I can ask members of my team and they are happy to assist (so I don't feel that it is a major issue).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Sometimes the work can be repetitive, but overall it is enjoyable and I am learning a lot. I get on well with apprentices in my cohort, and other members of my team. My supervisor is approachable and usually happy to discuss something that I am unsure of. Most days it meets my expectations, there is just the odd bad day, but as with anything, some days will be better than others.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction was great, I found that everything was clear and I knew who to ask if I had any issues/questions. we have termly meetings internally and with BPP, which is a chance to discuss how things are and ask questions. Sometimes I feel there is a lack of communication between DWF and BPP, and I have to fill the gap but it doesn't have a negative impact overall.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I think I get a lot of support from my supervisor/manager, and apprenticeship manager/HR team. I don't have a "mentor", but I can approach paralegals in my team who are happy to help. The general attitude is that people are happy to help if they can, and if not will try to direct you to someone who can.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I find it difficult to contact my tutor or apprenticeship manager at times, but generally they are helpful and supportive. We have regular termly meetings with our coach and apprenticeship manager, but in between I feel that we have very little contact. Sometimes I think we should be in contact more regularly, but overall it works quite well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that what I'm learning on my apprenticeship can be applied to my role, especially as I am progressing and getting involved in more and more. I had very little prior experience, so I know a lot more about the job/role/industry, which has helped to perform better. I'm not sure whether I have learnt that from my apprenticeship, I feel more likely from the day-to-day.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are events and extra-curricular activities to get involved in (when we were not on lockdown). I have been involved in CSR initiatives, and visited a local high school to help deliver a workshop. I haven't really got involved in any other social things, but that is not because they aren't available.

  • 9a. Would you recommend DWF Law LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great opportunity to learn and earn, as well as experience the job. Some days aren't as good as others, but overall DWF is great. The work is good, the people are nice and I am learning every day. I feel that the environment puts me in a position to perform as well as I can.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DWF Law LLP?
  • The application process and assessment day was not as scary as I was expecting. It was the first time I had experienced an assessment day, and the whole process was aimed at college leavers. Do your research and know why you want to do an apprenticeship here. Just be yourself and ask any questions that you have.
