On a day-to-day basis I completed tasks such as booking counsel, completing directions questionnaires, acknowledgment of services, calling up the Court to chase documents as well as Claimant Solicitors. I have however now been given my own files which I currently reviewing and taking conduct of with a view to settle.
During this apprenticeship, I have learnt new skills which I will take with me throughout my law career. The skills I have learnt is how to properly conduct myself in law, and how to approach certain files that may be a problem/cause for concern to others. Lastly, I have developed an understanding of law and how the structure works.
I am enjoying my programme, as it is requiring me to use my initiative and putting me in situations where I need to use the skills I have adapted over the last 18 months to figure out certain problems. I enjoy opening up a new file as each one is different and proposes a new challenge.
DWF are quite well organised and the structure of the apprenticeship is ran well. This is done through quarterly meetings with our apprenticeship manager and regular one to one with our supervisor. Aisha, our apprenticeship manager is always on hand when needed and should she not be available, she will always get back to us.
We receive a lot of support from our employer as they allow us one day off a week to study and we are granted a certain amount of study days per annum. These can be used before upcoming exams/coursework deadlines. Lastly, BPP are also supportive and liaise with DWF regularly.
BPP are regularly in touch and request meetings with both myself and my supervisor every 3 months so that they can track my progress and ensure that I am working along the right lines in order to pass my apprenticeship. Furthermore, they provide us with all the relevant materials that will aid us in our exams.
I believe that my qualification helps me perform better in my role as I am learning new things each week at BPP. I then use this to further my understanding in law when using what I have learnt to aid my progress within a file, or when conducting tasks on files for either myself/colleague.
Yes, we have a football team which I am part of, we also have a social every 3 months known as 'Fridge Friday' where the company hire out a social club and each member of staff gets 2 free drinks and free food from DWF. We also have regular events for example I am in the Liverpool office and when the netball world cup was hosted here we had a competition where we all got given a country involved and had to decorate our pod.
Yes
I would recommend DWF to a friend because it is a very friendly company who believe in there staff and go the extra mile when they need to. The company is a multi national firm and we are always taking steps to become bigger which helps all of us.
Be yourself, everyone at DWF is unique in there own way. This can be expressed every day as we have a relaxed dress down code.
