On a day to day basis I do a range of different things - each day is different. I don't run my own files yet, so my main role is assisting my supervisor and other people in my team. I draft letters, court documents and do some general admin work.
The biggest thing is developing my confidence. Before starting working here I had never been on the phone in a professional manner, so the first time I used the phone was nerve wracking. I have recently given a talk to students interested in law which shows my confidence is growing.
The programme is a good way to learn about the profession and pick up life skills along the way. Every day I am developing my skills and learning something new about the profession. Also, with the benefit of earning a wage.
I think the programme is generally well organised and I know what I am doing. Sometimes I feel like there is a slight lack of communication between my company and BPP (training provider), despite this I think the programme is well organised and structured.
My employer is very supportive. It gives us many opportunities and there are many benefits to working at DWF. There are opportunities to build our confidence and have an influence on younger children - by giving talks about the apprenticeship.
The training provider is supportive of us and gives us the guidance we need. I think there could be a bit more support provided by our portfolio coach. However, the overall apprenticeship manager is always there to answer our queries.
There is things within the programme that I see in work. If I didn't see it in the programme then I wouldn't know what it was in work
There are many social events which allow us to talk to people within different teams. We have recently had a quiz night and I know there are sporting events you can get involved with. I have also been on several lunches with my team and have upcoming events with them.
Yes
The company is supportive and there are many benefits to working here. The people are lovely and always very happy to help. As an apprentice I am not looked down on, everybody treats me like a normal colleague. I would definitely recommend working at DWF to a friend.
Definitely be confident and be yourself. DWF like people to have something different to talk about and it is important that you have something which helps you stand out.
