Completing various tasks within set, seperate units to a high standard. These involve practical applications and skills, theory based learning and written evidence of the learning which has been completed. One day a week is dedicated to learning within a classroom environment, involving Maths, English, Physics and Health and Safety. These are tied in with our practical sections.
I have developed on existing skills in the electrical maintenece environment, including domestic and industrial wiring. I have also improved upon skills learned previously within college back in school, hand fitting techniques and manual manufactuing of diffefent materials. I have greatly improved upon Mathematic skillsets previously laid down in school.
The apprenticeship programme as a whole in BAE systems is extremely versatile. The company has a good internal structure with practical abnd theoretical learning seamlessley bonded thorughout BAE and the college. The culture between employees, apprentices and instructors is extremely relaxed, however still remains professional. The facilities are well managed.
The apprenticeship is organised well, BAE provide an induction to the job which does take around a week and can be very slow, however there is alot of information crammed into a short space of time to ensure maximum time is available for learning. Tons of support is available throughout and as previously mentioned, college and the apprenticeship is linked well.
Multiple support avenues are available. The assessors / instructors are exteremely knowledgeable in their approach to teaching as they have been in the job they teach. Online applications are available to help when studying at home and the college courses are delivered in an understandable way.
As the training provider is BAE systems, the assessors are all BAE employees who have worked in the business. The support is provided consitently, professionally and to a high standard. Everyone within the company has an enthusiastic approach to supporting the apprentices and is always happy to help. This makes the course thoroughly enjoyable and stress free.
The apprenticeship is built in to the daily roles we have as the first year is situated in a state of the art training centre. Both practical and theoretical learning takes place all in one centre, this makes it much easier to apply theory to practice within the working role.
BAE provide us with enritchment activities throught the apprenticeship and all the way into the business omce the apprenticeship is completed. STEM activities for example, a stepping stone into apprenticeships for younger age learners. There are also events lkek UK and World skills which we can take part in and advance our skills further.
Yes
Thoroughly enjoyable apprenticeship, great learner support. Excellent facilities and training centre. Something different every day from working on planes to learning about VR and CAD design. Much more interesting and engaging than a typical engineering qualification at a college and the added benefit of having a wage throughout the training.
Get the application in early, review it and see how it applies to the job you would like to do in the future and at BAE systems before submitting. Research the company before the interview and do as many enrichment activities as possible before applying such as the STEM program. Also ask lots of questions if you do get the interview!
