  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • completing cases for major retail banks to help with their remediation processes. These involve anti-money laundering, suitability review and cyber security. At present, I am working on a anti-money laundering project and completing enhanced due diligence reports that involve transaction monitoring, screening and ownership structure. These requirements are dependent on the clients demand.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have specifically developed my confidence skills and been able to identify gaps where I am not as confident. This has led to my development to become a successful leader and follow advice and guidance of others whilst giving my own support to my team. My knowledge has also improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I work 20% of my time which involves visiting university one day a week and when this is not on, I get this as an extra study day. I then attend work for the other 80%. Despite my passion for work, I strongly dislike the university side of the apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As we were the first intake of school leavers for our department, there were a very few teething problems at the start of the programme and these have been rectified with specific managers who deal with any apprenticeship queries or problems. These are swiftly dealt with and esculated accordingly so it is well structured.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive the maximum support from my employee as I am assigned a work place mentor who has also completed the degree, this individual is approachable and ensures that she can answer any of my queries. Support is also given to ensure that we do not have too much work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • It is often dependant on the lecturer as some will be willingly to answer emails, organise meeting and calls especially as the work is 100% assignment based where as other lecturers aren't as proactive in ensuring that we understand the content. I prefer the support I am given at work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I personally struggle with the transfer of learning from university to work as I do not feel that the content at university is applicable to the content at work hence why I find work enjoyable and university to be very boring. The work content is much more interesting as appose to university.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • EY has a range of networks and social activities which I can get involved in. There are also 2 annual social events for the whole department then there are often project night outs which are exclusively for people on the project who are working for a specific client. These are communicated via email.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY to a friend however I would not recommend my specific department as the university side of the apprenticeship is very dull and I do not personally find it enjoyable. I feel as though other qualifications would have enhanced my career further such as an opportunity in tax.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Research the company in enough detail to ensure that questions can be answered in detail at interviews and assessment centre. Research is the key so you can also be engaged at the assessment centres as they are very competitive. Also apply enough in advance so that there is time to go through the full process.
