I work as a tax assistant on a compliance team in the personal tax centre. My role as an assistant has included preparing clients annual UK tax return. I have also been assigned various admin tasks including drafting letters to clients and HMRC. Meanwhile I have also attended courses to expand my tax knowledge.
I have a greater understanding of tax related issues and have also learnt how to use various new computer programmes which assist me in my day to day work. I have also worked alongside a close team which I feel has helped me to develop my communication skills, in person and via email.
I have enjoyed my programme. One of the reasons I applied to this programme was because of EY's strong culture values. I have experienced this and received a warm and friendly welcome when I joined. I have also enjoyed the amount of actual client work I have been given, exceeding my expectations.
The courses I have been enrolled on have a clear structure. I also like that I have the option to attend courses in person as well as online. In terms of the work related element, I have felt well integrated in to the team that I have been placed on.
My employer has been very supportive. They have arranged for me to attend all my courses in person. My team manager has also been very supportive of my work and has accommodated for me to spend time in the office on the online materials that I have been assigned to complete.
I feel well supported by my training provider. The online portal is easy to access and is also easy to navigate through. I have also found plenty of supporting material and videos. My training provider has also been in regular contact throughout my programme so far. However, I am yet to be assigned a coach as mentioned.
I have found some of the courses very useful in performing my day to day role. They have given me a greater understanding of tax issues which I have then applied in real life situations. However, some courses, although interesting do not directly help my current job. But may be of use in future teams.
I have not got involved in extra-curricular activities with my work as yet. However, this is mainly because I already have several commitments outside of work that I had before joining the programme. But my employer has advertised several extra curricular activities to me, and there seems to be a good variety
Yes
I would recommend EY to a friend because I have learnt a lot through the courses as well as learning through the work I have been involved in. I would also recommend EY because of its friendly culture. I also like that there is various opportunities to move across teams if desired.
I would advise others who apply to EY to get involved in as many opportunities as possible. I would also say that it is best to ensure work is of good quality, than rushing through projects to get them done. It is ok to say when you're workload is becoming too much.
