My day to day role varies dependant on the projects I am working on and the role I have on the project. My tasks each day can vary from admin tasks to assist the team and technical projects, whereby I am analysing transactions for their tax impacts. No two days are the same!
I have developed many skills in these past 6 months alone. I have developed my interpersonal skills: communication and teamwork. I have also managed to develop my confidence through my role. I have not only gained interpersonal skills but I have also managed to develop my technical knowledge and have been able to gain a better understanding of UK corporate tax and way business decisions interact with UK tax law.
I truly enjoy my current programme, I am able to learn and study, which means I am able to see what I learn at college in practice in the work place. I enjoy the ever-changing nature of my work, and the way in which each project varies giving me a well rounded understanding of UK tax.
The programme is well structured. We are given all of out first year college/ exam dates 12 months prior, enabling us to structure work and study in a manner that suits us and also allowing us to be successful in balancing both. There are always counsellors/ mentors at hand if we have any queries/ concerns.
The support I receive is great, I work with a team of 9 people all of whom take interest in our work and are always approachable. I have a counsellor who supports me in my work and in my studies, I also have an apprenticeship coach, both provide support whenever it is required.
The training provider also has various points of contact for any time we have concerns or questions. There are online portals where we can find different ways to contact tutors if we have any content related questions. The training provider also provides us with webcasts we can join outside of college time to refresh learning.
My qualification gives me an understanding of accounting from a business perspective, this allows me in my work to understand the background of any project and allows me to understand the reasons why a business makes certain decisions. The qualification alongside technical work gives me an all rounded understanding of my role.
There are many extra-curricular activities that we can get involved in at work, whether these are related to your role or not. There are various different networks that we can join depending on individual interests. CSR days are held for employees to get involved in too, these are good way to meet new people and a great way to give something back.
Yes
I would definitely recommend EY to a friend. EY allows its employees to work in a way which suits them, allowing you to bring out your best self. The company prides itself on diversity and inclusivity, giving you a sense of belonging and allowing you to be who you are at work.
During the application process, be yourself! Remember the process is just as much for you to find out if the company will be a good fit for you as it is for EY to understand if you're a good fit. Enjoy the process as much as you can, and remember EY prides itself on its values!
