As a demand planner, I analyse previous sales data to forecast future product demand. My role also include keeping store stock balance at the right quantity, having the right product in right place at right time. I also support my manager in risk assessment and mitigation plan, then implementing the action plan.
Effective communication is one of the key new skills I have developed during my program. Listening, straight talking, body language, non-verbal communication like observe and infer meaning, different forms of written communication like emails, short messages and reports, are some of the aspects of effective communication I had to learn.
I am getting paid while I am learning. After leaving school, I did not have enough experience or practical knowledge to get into a highly paid job. So when I got into the program where I can earn a decent amount at the same time gain practical experience, I was very happy.
I am required to follow a specific course training and undergo a series of assessment to confirm that I have reached the industry standard. I am also required to take safeguarding module, on job training, one to one with line manager, year-end review and skill mapping throughout my program. Besides the structural program, I also have online training and assessment which I have to complete.
I receive on job training from my employer in the form of mentoring, shadowing and participating in different lectures. I am also allowed to take time off to complete my studying. My line manager and colleagues supports me in completing my program. Besides that I also get support for mental and physical well being.
The training provider is always there to support me with my program. Whenever I have query, I get prompt email reply. The training is quite extensive and covers industry standard. The training provider was also very flexible regarding training dates, when I could not attend a day I was given support and substitute day to catch up.
A professional qualification will help me continue in my role or move to a new role. The qualification will help prepare me to situation at time of pressure and uncertainty. In the fast changing business environment, the qualification will work as base to move forward, adapt to changes and stay focused.
There are team days, occasional drinks out, celebrating success, volunteering activities, sports club, quizzes etc. You are encouraged to participate but is not criticized if you don’t. You can even propose your own team building exercise in your team. You can also get involved with charities within your own community and the office will support where possible.

The culture in TESCO is open and customer focused. If you enjoy doing your part for your customer and take pride for doing it correctly, then TESCO will support and encourage you. You also get recognition and your effort is celebrated if you go out of your way to help a colleague or customer.
The application process is long and it is designed to filter out your best qualities. The process is to see what role will be suitable for you. So I would suggest to be honest during the process. It will help at later stage when you are faced with your day to day activities.
